Media Monday

I decided to piggyback on
colls idea to do a weekly "what I'm watching" post. I, at first, just had a plan to keep a list throughout the week and maybe just publish that, but then all these words happened.
I also just included all types of media in there because movies are so similar to TV shows to podcasts to music, that I don't think I'd be able to split them up in a reasonable way.
(This week there are no spoilers in any of this, might be in the future but cut+tags will be prominent)
I went and saw Spider-Verse again this week, this time with my roommates. That brings me up to a total of 2.75 times I've gone to see it. (The first time being interrupted when the fire alarm went off in the theatre).
My roommates and I are all huge fans of the Get Down and were really excited to see Shameik Moore as Miles. They both really liked it, though one roommate was really not a fan of the spiders and the heights even animated. I can't wait to add all the songs from the soundtrack to our roommate playlist.
Specifically, in case you missed it, Shameik Moore singing "Joy to the World", which had me cracking up. New favorite song. I would make it my ringtone if I were the kind of person that ever took my phone off silent.
The season finale was this week, which I didn't realize when I watched it. I didn't cry when watching it, because I think I was too upset. My friend who never cries at anything did cry though. Unfortunately I didn't warn them about how sad it was going to be, so they just burst into tears at the library.
I have a lot of feelings about the finale and want to talk about what I think is going to happen next, so I think I am going to make a separate post about the Good Place. I'll link that in this once I write it.
Brooklyn 99: I don't have a lot to say about the most recent episode. The high school reunion stuff for me just felt kind of embarrassing but I did love all the background nerd!Amy.
Carmen Sandiego: I started watching this and it is so cute! I didn't watch the show or play the games as a child, so I have no nostalgia for it, but it's just a cute little show, and the animation is so pretty.
I have been marathoning the Good Place podcast for the last week or two and finally got through all 39 episodes to listen to the final one just after it came out. T_T
Generally I have been really enjoying the podcast even outside of a fan of the Good Place. I love hearing about the TV industry and the jobs and how everything works together. I also have gotten very fond of Mike Schur's giggling and the way everyone compliments each other all the time. It's just such a cute and positive podcast.
I decided to combine in my thoughts about the most recent episode of the podcast with my thoughts about the show, because from a spoilers standpoint, they overlap a lot.
Good Morning, Night Vale: The episode Good Morning Dana came out this week. I think this might have been the first episode out since the holiday break? I was very happy that it came back.
Hey Riddle Riddle: They just published an episode called "Kiss, Kiss Riddle Riddle". As always, I know I laughed a lot while listening to it, and then immediately forgot every single riddle. So it goes.
These two podcasts are my main up-to-date podcasts. Whenever a new episode comes out I listen to them immediately.
Now that I have finished listening to the Good Place podcast, I am probably going to catch up on Be the Serpent.
you should see me in a crown by Billie Eilish
I love songs that feel like you should be able to dance to them by just swinging you head around to a strong beat, but you can't because they are also really slow and smooth. This song is the epitome of that genre.
Your Graduation by Modern Baseball
My brother really loves this band, but I couldn't quite get into it for a long time. The spacing of the beats was just not right for me. But at 2 am, not being able to sleep because of a new medication with my mind running in circle because a friend I'd given up on reached out to me unexpectedly? Then this song really suits me.
East Northumberland High by Miley Cyrus
Similar vibe to the song above. All about moving on from people that you used to like, but you've changed.
This song is definitely my favorite Miley Cyrus song. It used to be on the soundtrack for a rollercoaster video game I would play with my brothers and one of them brought it back into my life recently (how I get most of my music, tbh). I specifically like it because it's much more hopeful than Your Graduation, and I use it to remind myself that even though I still have a gut reaction from seeing an old crush, that doesn't mean things are same, and it doesn't mean I'm not getting over them.
Old College Try by the Mountain Goats
Idk, this is just a Mountain Goats song and like all Mountain Goats songs, I didn't like it the first three times I listened to it I didn't like it and then the fourth time - BAM - I think it's great.
Motion Sickness by Phoebe Bridgers
I apparently like this song so much that it ended up on my "liked songs" playlist twice. I just learned this, and I am going to do nothing to change it, because I appreciate the fact that it comes up twice as often and I get to hear it more.
Are we consuming the same media? What are you watching? Any recs or thoughts? Lmk.

When you're standing near me
I don't see so clearly
The feelings are still so palpable
But when I take two steps away
It sheds some light on my day
Yeah, you can't go back
It's all in the past
